Most people would assume that the adult deer tick populations take a big hit during the cold winter months, but Dr. Mather, an entomologist at the University of Rhode Island, says that ticks are not afraid of the cold! Ticks have the ability to acclimate themselves to the cold when the change is more gradual. They are able to insulate beneath a blanket of leaf litter and snow. The spring tick population will not be affected as much as people used to think!
