Hurry…run grab your kids, grandchildren or any young person within ear shot and sit 'em down with you in front of your TV. Okay, if you’re all gathered around and ready I’ll begin by asking a question to all you young people. What do you consider the funnest things to do? Go ahead and rattle them off out loud.
Adults…of the activities you’re hearing, which ones do you wish your kids would do less of and why?
I’ll bet you’re seeing many of them playing out your screen right now. I just dearly hope among more mindless, non-physical activities their replies also include outdoor activities such as fishing…hunting…canoeing…camping…and shooting sports. I’m talking about outdoor hobbies a person remembers doing for the first time the rest of their life. Honest-to-god gateway experiences that, more often than not, lead from one outdoor thrill to another to another.
Well, to each and everyone of you, today we’ll be going on a very, very special field trip to Wyoming, where meaningful lessons are taught by volunteers in a variety of very exciting classrooms both inside and out.
As you watch and learn…all I ask from you young people is to keep asking yourself whether the activities you see look like they’d be fun to try if you never have.
Meanwhile, we old fogies should try to remember back to a time we were introduced to all sorts of outdoor fun for the first time…try to recall what your first impressions were…who taught us…and maybe even figure out, why on earth we ever stopped doing them if that’s the case.
Next stop…the Wyoming Hunting and Fishing Heritage Expo!
What’s it all about, who’s involved and why am I making such a fuss about it to a national audience?
Let’s begin with a pretty heavy hitter seated at the very top of state government in Wyoming—exactly where citizens should go to address their concerns
I hear ya governor, however Guns and school kids? In this day and age? Ab-so-lutely! But only when done right and for all the right reasons!
Think you could disintegrate a clay bird into a powdery puff like that? It’s such a kick to conquer the challenge and be able to say “yes I can!” So this week, make sure you join us because you’re not gonna believe all the other awesome outdoor activities we’ll see and explore together at the Wyoming Hunting and Fishing Heritage Expo.
