and a Lac La Martre lake trout from July
of 2004. Guest Dan Thurston from Kansas in
the background. |
On our trip to Lac La Martre in the
Northwest Territories last July, the number of
pike and lake trout my guests and I hooked, landed
and released was stunning. Even more mind-boggling
was the number of trophies blended into the mix.
On last week’s show, my friend and Kansas
hunting outfitter Dan Thurston and I had our
hands quite full tackling some of the biggest
gators I’d ever seen!
We saw exactly
how deadly the newest, slow-moving soft plastic
baits
have become at triggering monster pike…and
the action was nothing short of spectacular!
Now on this weeks show, we’ll be continuing
that wild, fly-in adventure to the Northwest
Territories right where we left off—two
days into it as Dan, guide Mike Rabesca
and I set out for our first shot at Lac
La Martre lake trout. Dan and I had an
absolute blast before it was finally time
for me to switch fishing partners.
Knowing full-well huge and ferocious northern
pike were waiting and all but daring to be caught…I
then hopped
into the boat with Spence Petros, who’s
a seminar speaker, outdoor writer and the most
hardcore pike and musky fisherman I know. Just
like Dan and I did on last week’s show,
Spence and I are looking forward to mopping up
some big gators on large, slow-moving soft-plastic
baits…but only after going through a school
and catching the most aggressive ones on spoons
and bucktails first.
