World Record Arctic Char!

Fish with the History

This river is a hundred miles inside the Arctic Circle . Surrounded by magnificent buttes, the river rushes to the Arctic Ocean only a few miles down river from our camp. The river is known as the best Arctic Char River in the world, holding the current 32 pound world record. You can spend your time chasing the magnificent brightly coloured Arctic Char or you can have your Inuit guide take you to Cornation Gulf where you can sit on a cliff and just gaze out over the Ocean...What a feeling!!
An "oasis in the arctic" is how many people describe the scenery. Spring, summer and fall is condensed into July and August, with beautiful Arctic flora and fauna everywhere. The river is twisting white water, thundering waterfalls, flower carpeted islands and calm placid stretches with clear pools teaming with char.

Babe's Comments:

This is a totally unique place with such a storied history. Here they actually still use the char for a currency. There are great numbers of these beautiful creatures in the river and you can catch up to 50 or more in a day. I plan on going back to the Tree River for another go-around soon.

Seasons: Summer.
