Your hosts the
Dougherty family say “Welcome
Aboard” to a wonderful wilderness
adventure. Our family has been providing
guests with wonderful vacations since
1918 on famous Rainy Lake. Rainy
Lake has been home to Voyageurs National
Park since 1971. The Rainy Lake portion
of Voyageurs National Park provides
outstanding wilderness scenery, peace
and tranquillity, plentiful wildlife,
superior birding opportunities and
truly world class fishing opportunities.
Voyageurs National Park is the only inland water-based park in
the National Park System. It is located near the center of the
greatest system of interconnected waterways on earth where no roads
can be found.
This is one
of my favorite fishing experiences
where you take a houseboat into
the Voyageurs National Park, (towing
your fishing boats behind) find
a secluded shoreline to park and
live and fish in the middle of
the wilderness in total comfort
and solitude. The houseboat can
easily handle an entire family,
even with as many kids as I have.
The fishing is really good for walleyes, Smallmouth Bass, Big Crappies
and Northern Pike. There are even a few muskies around...big ones!!
Several years ago special management practices were put in place
by the DNR to insure the future of this fishery. The program has
worked extremely well and the fishing now is even better than it
was ten years ago.
The quality
time spent with family, where you
have no schedules, no telephone
and no nintendo is special. It’s
an outdoor environment 24 hours
a day. Wake up to the Loons singing
in the morning and watch spectacular
sunsets in the evening. I would
highly recommend this trip, either
as a family outing or one for a
bunch of hard cores. Either way,
it’s a fantastic trip.
Seasons: Fall,
Winter, Spring.
